Tallahassee PRIDEFEST Continues Tuesday with Interfaith Service and Other Events

PRIDEFEST is an annual celebration of the rich diversity within the Tallahassee area and recognizes social contributions of the LGBT community.

TALLAHASSEE – Members of the Tallahassee community are celebrating this year’s PRIDEFEST festival being held April 14 – 20.  The event – themed “Celebrate Pride in US” – is sponsored by The Family Tree Community Center and various local individuals, organizations and businesses, including Big Bend Cares, Rainbow eBooks.com, Conn & Associates Architects, Mary L. Wakeman Attorney at Law, Gentle Shepherd Metropolitan Community Church, United Church in Tallahassee, Equality Florida, Florida Blue, and many more.

It is a sad fact that many LGBT individuals have felt unwelcome in houses of worship, or even literally been cast out of the church or group in which they were raised.  For this reason, they often feel estranged from spirituality altogether.  But things are changing.  Tallahassee is coming to have a growing number of churches and other faith groups in which to find an open and affirming spiritual home.

Congratulations to Miss Tallahassee PRIDEFEST 2013 Amiyah Chancellor

Tallahassee PRIDEFEST 2013 kicked off on Sunday, April 14th, with the third annual Tallahassee PRIDEFEST Drag Pageant, held at Rehab Night Club, 926 W. Tharpe Street.  Hosted by local performers Cha Cha Amore and Eboni Starr, event contestants were judged in four categories: presentation, formal wear, question and answer, and solo talent.  The winning contestant, Amiyah Chancellor, was crowned Miss Tallahassee PRIDEFEST 2013.  Anye Sanchez took the honor of first runner-up.

Also participating in the pageant were Elanea Brooks, Samantha Fox, Yelena, Traci Russell, and Lady Kush.

Volunteer Your Time! Get in on the Fun!

Tallahassee PRIDEFEST 2013 is organized by The Family Tree’s Pride Planning Committee.  Lend a hand, share your ideas, and help make Tallahassee PRIDEFEST 2013 possible.  Volunteers are needed for a variety of duties including guest surveying, event set-up and break-down, Kids Zone supervisors and more!
